What Is Color Doppler Ultrasound? Is It Really in Color?
The examination commonly known as "color ultrasound" is actually a grayscale ultrasound image. The colors show blood flow, not the organ itself.
What do the colors show?
Doppler technology displays blood flow in the vessels using color coding. This allows the presence, direction, and flow characteristics of the vessels to be evaluated.
Is it the same as "4D" ultrasound?
No. 4D imaging is a different technique and is not required for every detailed evaluation. From a medical standpoint, what truly matters is the detailed ultrasound assessment of the organs.
When is Doppler/SMI needed?
