Most enlarged lymph nodes are caused by infection or inflammation and are temporary. The most important factor in assessing risk is the ultrasound findings.

- ◆Enlargement lasting longer than 3–4 weeks
- ◆Rapid growth
- ◆Significant systemic symptoms
