Ultrasound-guided biopsies are among today's safe and controlled procedures, because they allow the target tissue to be visualized and evaluated directly. During the procedure, the advance of the needle is followed in real time on the ultrasound screen and the approach is planned so that the surrounding vascular structures are protected.
In most patients the procedure takes less time than expected and does not interfere with daily life. The process is explained in detail beforehand, and the patient's comfort is a priority throughout.
The goal is not simply to take a sample, but to take it safely from the right area and thereby avoid unnecessary procedures.
Is the Procedure Painful?
Ultrasound-guided biopsies are usually far more comfortable than patients expect. Because fine needles are used, most patients describe only a brief, mild pricking sensation.
When needed, local anesthesia is applied to numb the biopsy site, and patient comfort remains the priority. The procedure is usually short, and patients can return to their daily activities the same day.
